Advantages of high-performance plastics

High-performance plastics are used above all in the process steps of silicon processing, cutting and polishing, coating and etching processes as well as handling and in measuring, testing and packaging processes. Their properties:

  • high material purity with low ion contamination
  • high plasma resistance
  • high dimensional stability.

Material selection

In principle, all plastics can be used in the manufacture of solar modules, semiconductors and other electronic components. However, the good electrical insulation properties of the plastics often pose a problem, as electrostatic charging and thus potential discharges can occur in the application.

Plastics are generally electrical insulators with a surface resistance of more than 1012 ohms. However, they can be made electrically conductive (AST) or dissipative (ESD) by adding certain fillers. However, these substances must be selected with care, as application-related abrasion may lead to contamination of the manufacturing process or electronic components.
