Q200.5 (PS-X)
Q200.5 (PS-X)
Q200.5 is a chemically crosslinked special plastic based on polystyrene (PS). This material has been specially developed for applications in the high-frequency range.
Due to the chemical crosslinking, Q200.5 loses its thermoplastic properties; above 115°C, the plastic changes to a gel-like state and cannot be further plasticized. The thermo-elastic state remains unchanged up to a temperature of over 200°C is obtained.
Due to the crosslinking, the transparency of Q200.5 suffers. In contrast to the optical transparency of PS, Q200.5 is a translucent industrial grade with a light transmission of approx. 87%.
The mechanical strength as well as the temperature resistance of Q200.5 are clearly above the values of PS. Also the chemical resistance and the susceptibility to stress cracking - common to amorphous plastics - are significantly improved by networking.
Main features
- excellent acoustic properties
- excellent dielectric properties
- heat deflection temperature 100°C
Q200.5, unlike uncrosslinked PS, cannot be glued without special adhesives and is not thermoplastic (e.g. in injection molding) processable. For this reason, only semi-finished products are used for machining.
